Returning for his second season on the Flames’ bench is former letterwinner John Collins. A four-year starter in the midfield, Collins continues at UIC as an assistant coach to head skipper Sasha Begovic. In his position, Collins with assist with practices, recruiting, travel arrangements, scheduling and general office duties. An All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference honoree, Collins enjoyed an outstanding career with the Flames that was capped off with the school's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 as well as their first-ever MCC regular-season and tournament championships. In his senior campaign, Collins finished second on the team in scoring with six goals and eight assists for 20 points while he buried the Flames' game-winning goal in their 1-0 win against Fairfield in the NCAA Play-In game, sending UIC on to the NCAA Tourney. During his four-year career, Collins started in 76 of the 77 games he played in and helped the Flames to a 51-22-4 overall record. He concluded his tenure ranked fifth on the all-time scoring list with 53 points while his 18 career goals is sixth and his 17 career assists ranks fifth.
