`Forty Flames to Follow' in 2013-14: Lukasz Adamczyk

    June 10, 2013

CHICAGO - As one of UIC's most active student-athletes, Lukasz Adamcyzk from the men's gymnastics team wears many hats. His accomplishments both in and out of the gym made him an easy choice to be recognized as one of "Forty Flames to Follow" heading into the 2013-14 athletic season. The summer series, which debuted on Monday, will alphabetically feature 40 returning UIC student-athletes once per day until early August.

Adamczyk was one-of-eight UIC men's gymnasts that individually advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships in University Park, Pa., in April. A standout on the pommel horse, Adamczyk advanced to the second day of the NCAA Championships after producing a 14.850 score during the event on day one. It marked his third-highest score on the pommel horse on the season.

Heading into his senior season, Adamczyk will be relied upon to be one of UIC's leaders. The Flames lost the services of David Ishida, Dan Zerbel and Justin Maxwell, all of which joined Adamczyk as individual participants at the NCAA Championships.

Outside of the gym, Adamczyk has been a model student-athlete. In April 2012, he was named a recipient of the prestigious "Elite 89 Award," a standard that recognizes a model student-athlete, one who has reached the championship level, while also achieving a top academic standard. Entering his senior year in UIC's Biochemistry curriculum, Adamczyk carries a 3.67 cumulative GPA. At the annual "Night of Champions" event, which honors UIC's academic achievement, the Deerfield, Ill., native earned the Avery Brundage Scholarship for the second-straight year.

This summer, Adamczyk is serving as a campus tour guide during orientation sessions. As NCAA.com revealed at the national championships in April, Adamczyk, who can be spotted doing plenty of dancing at home gymnastics meets, also does plenty of "clowning around" on the side.
