Chicago, Ill. - UIC men's gymnastics coach CJ Johnson found it very appealing that Brian Vauter travels one hour both ways, three days a week, to work out with the Spartan Youth Gymnastics team for three hours a day.

Johnson, in fact, found Vauter's work ethic so encouraging that he inked the Grand Blac, Michigan native to a National Letter of Intent for the 2002 season.

"Brian is an all-arounder that has a lot of promise," Johnson said. "He is also a very good student."

Johnson believes that Vauter will help take the men's gymnastics program to the next level.

"Brian will be a positive asset in the future of the program," Johnson said. "He is at the same level where I want to go with this program."
