    CHICAGO- UIC gymnast Christopher Root has been named ECAC Rookie of the Week, as it was announced by the conference on Wednesday.

    The Cartersville, Ga., freshman earned a 78.100 in his first all-around competition as a Flame, putting him in fourth place. Root scored 13.200 on floor exercise, 13.350 on pommel horse, 12.950 on rings, 13.800 on vault, 11.600 on parallel bars and 13.200 on high bar. Four of his six scores (floor, pommel, vault and high bar) were counted for UIC as the Flames earned a season-high score (403.550).

    Root and UIC welcome Iowa Sunday, Feb. 23 in their last home meet of the season. Competition is set to get underway at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Physical Education Building.
