CHICAGO- The UIC men’s gymnastics team travels to Brockport, N.Y. to compete against SUNY-Brockport with William & Mary at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday (Feb. 8) at the Brockport Gymnastics Center.
“After a couple of weekends off the team is ready to get out there and compete,” stated head coach Charley Nelson. “This is going to be a major test. William and Mary is the favorite for the ECAC title and it is going to be interesting to see how we stack up. It will either be a sign that we are on the right path or that we need to kick it into gear.”
The Flames last competed at the Windy City Invitational (Jan. 18) after inclement weather prevented them from traveling and competing at Minnesota (Jan. 25).
In the Flames last competition, Lukasz Adamczyk scored 14.100 on pommel horse. Jason Gaides came in with a 14.150 on rings and Joseph Hodges scored 14.150 on horizontal bar, as well as a team-best 79.100 for all-around.
Trent Jarrett led UIC on parallel bars with a 13.700. Jacob Thurber posted team-best scores on floor (13.450) and vault (14.500). UIC placed sixth with a final team score of 395.500.
“I am also excited to be making UIC's first ever trip to SUNY-Brockport,” continued Nelson. “They have developed a strong club program.”
This marks the first competition between SUNY-Brockport and UIC. The Flames have gone 3-2 against William & Mary since the 2001 season.
