Chicago, Ill. - UIC junior Anthony May (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Gymnast of the Week while teammate Neal Thompson (Woodside Calif./Carlmont) earned Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

May finished third overall in the all-around competition with a score of 82.450.

May notched notable high scores on vault (15.450), floor exercise (13.850), and still rings (13.95) to help lead the Flames to a sixth place finish out of seven teams at the Windy City Invitational.

"Anthony is moving forward as a leader in the gym," said UIC head coach "CJ" Johnson. "He has taken over the leadership role and is a total positive for our team."

Thompson led UIC last Saturday at the Annual Windy City Invitational, placing second overall by scoring a team-high all-around score of 82.850.

The rookie posted top scores for the Flames on parallel bars (14.600), floor exercise (14.100), and pommel horse (13.750).

Thompson's second place finish was the highest UIC has ever reached in the all-around competition.

"Neal is a real athlete and I'm proud of him and his accomplishments," said Johnson.

Johnson is also satisfied to know the talent he has in May and Thompson will help the team out in the long run.

"I am confident in what these two young men have to offer," said Johnson.
