    CHICAGO – The UIC men’s and women’s gymnastics teams kicked off their respective 2012-13 seasons on Sunday at the annual Mixed Pairs exhibition meet at the Physical Education Building.

    Emily Lawrence, Alexandra Vedenin, Kyle Christiansen and Dan Zerbel came out victorious for team two, as they averaged 22.43 points and combined for a total of 169.90.

    Overall leaders on the men’s side were Jason Gaides on floor (14.60), vault (14.40) and parallel bars (13.50), David Ishida on pommel horse (13.60), Justin Maxwell on rings (13.10) and Zerbel on high bar (13.90).

    Leading the women’s team, Chantel Turk took vault (9.85) and floor (9.80), Gabrielle May took bars (9.75) and Alyssa Cruz took beam (9.80).

    The men’s and women’s squads return to the PEB on Saturday, Jan. 12 for their first regular-season meet, with the men taking on Illinois and the women facing Penn State at 5 p.m. (CT).
