Andrew Stover Returns To All-Around Finals As Men's Gymnastics Advances Four At NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - While the UIC men's gymnastics team was unable to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Minneapolis on Thursday evening, the Flames will be well represented as four qualified to the final rounds, held at the University of Minnesota this weekend. Andrew Stover, finishing sixth in the all-around, was the second non-team qualifier and will be advancing to the Friday finals with an 84.450 score. The junior placed 11th (82.95) in the finals last season. The Flames qualified three individuals to Saturday's event finals competition after finishing as the top three not to qualify as part of an advancing team to tomorrow's finals. David Mohr will be in his first NCAA championships on the pommel horse, placing 12th with a 14.250 performance. On the still rings, Nikolai Korepanov moves on after a 12th place, 14.650 showing on his strongest event. The junior has been ranked as high as third in the nation on the rings during the regular season. Closing out the Flames competitors will be Neal Thompson, competing on the parallel bars on Saturday after finishing 10th in 14.150. The Flames finished fifth in the second qualifying session of the day with a team score of 337.650. The top three teams in Oklahoma (360.950), Illinois (359.300) and Ohio State (354.300) moved on to the team finals, held on Friday evening. Minnesota (351.010), UIC, and Iowa (337.350) rounded out the competitors in the evening session. Stanford, Michigan and Cal advanced in the earlier session.
