Columbus, Ohio - Senior Dave Johnson (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) put forth a valiant effort, but fell short in his bid for the 2001 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Still Rings Championship on Friday.

Johnson tied for 18th place on Friday with a mark of 9.000 and was unable to advance to Saturday's championships. Penn State's Chris Lakeman emerged as the 2001 NCAA still rings champion with a score of 9.550.
