    WEST POINT, N.Y.- The UIC men's gymnastics team captured the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference/Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League Championship at Army's Lou Gross Sports Center on Friday night.

    The 11th-ranked Flames posted a winning score of 341.050 to beat out second-place Navy's score of 340.200, cementing UIC's second ECAC/EIGL Cup in program history and first since 2004.

    UIC receives an automatic berth to the 2009 NCAA National Qualifying Session in Minneapolis later this month, the first time the Flames will go the National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics Championships as a team since 2004.

    The Flames were balanced across the board, posting top-five team scores on every event. UIC came out on top in the vault (61.600) and rings (58.250) standings.

    Andrew Stover was the ECAC all-around runner-up with a tally of 84.900. Neal Thompson placed fourth in the all-around with an 84.550, while Anthony May placed eighth after scoring an 82.150.

    UIC's first-place event showings included Thompson's pommel victory (14.750) and Nikolai Korepanov's rings win (15.400).

    The top eight finishers in each event will vie for ECAC/EIGL individual event titles on Saturday, Apr. 4 at 6 p.m. ET. Representing UIC in the event finals will be Stover on rings, vault and high bar; Thompson on pommel, rings and parallel bars; May on vault; Korepanov on rings and high bar; Alex Kadar on rings; Jeff Bill on floor exercise; and Bobby Solomon on vault.
