Annapolis, Maryland - Navy narrowly edged the men's gymnastics team, 199.825-199.1 in an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown on Monday night.

UIC (2-15) received a pair of first-place finishes from senior captain Dave Johnson (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita). Johnson recorded top marks on the still rings (9.25) and the vault (9.0). The Chicago native also set a season-high score on the horizontal bar with a fourth-place finish of 8.15.

Senior Anthony Cirullo (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) added a first-place finish for UIC on the floor exercise with a score of 8.9 while junior Frankie Pretzel (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) was tops on the horizontal bar with a 8.45.

Junior captain Matthew Soucie (Newmarket, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) recorded three runner-up finishes. Soucie turned in the Flames' top performance on the pommel horse with an 8.55 and the parallel bars (8.3). Soucie finished second to Navy's Danny Finnigan (50.9) in the all-around with a score of 50.1.

UIC will participate in a triangular hosted by William and Mary on Wednesday at 7 PM. James Madison will also participate.
