Men's Gymnastics Downs Army, Falls to UMass
March 10, 2000 West Point, N.Y. - The 13th-ranked UIC men's gymnastics team beat Army and lost to Massachusetts Friday evening at a double-dual meet in West Point, N.Y. The Flames tallied 220.700 points compared to Army's 222.775 and UMass's 212.350. UIC performed well on the still rings, earning a team total of 36.750 points. Michael D'Antino took first on that event with a score of 9.650 while teammate David Johnson took second with a 9.500. The Flames tallied 37.350 points on the floor exercise, with Anthony Cirullo tying for first with a 9.650. Toby vanAmerongen also turned in a top-five performance for UIC on that event, placing fifth with a 9.350. UIC's highest event score came on the vault, where the Flames totaled 37.600 points. Nick Becker placed second on 9.500 while Dave Johnson took fourth with a 9.450. Greg Gabel took a first-place finish for UIC on the parallel bars, finishing first with a 9.200. UIC will face Army again on Sunday at 1:00, CST, in West Point, N.Y.
