Chicago, Ill. - The 12th-ranked UIC men's gymnastics team turned in its best score of the season Saturday night, but it was not enough to overcome a strong performance by No. 8 Michigan State, which won the meet by a score of 229.075-222.475.
The Flames were led by a strong performance on the vault, where they outscored Michigan State 38.300-38.175. Tony Cirullo took first on that event with a score of 9.850 while David Johnson finished in a tie for second with a 9.650.
UIC also had a solid night on the still rings, where the Flames netted 37.575 points to the Spartans' 37.450. Mike D'Antino took first on the rings with a 9.750 while David Johnson again earned second, this time with a 9.725.
Erin Willingham turned in a second-place for UIC on the pommel horse with a 9.650 while Cirullo added a third place finish to his Saturday night totals with 9.600 on the floor exercise.
The meet was UIC's final home meet of the season, and marked the Flames' fifth consecutive home meet against a top ten team.
UIC returns to action Saturday, Mar. 4, when they travel to Minneapolis to face the 11th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers.
