LAS VEGAS- After competing in all six events, UIC gymnast Joseph Hodges concluded competition at the Winter Cup Challenge at the Riviera Hotel and Casino's Royale Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev. Hodges ranked 42ndoverall through prelims.

"Joseph did well at the Winter Cup Challenge, but not quite well enough to make the finals," stated head coach Charley Nelson.

Hodges captured a 13.350 on vault for his highest score through all events and placed 29th among the 37 gymnasts while competing in session one. Hodges' next best score came on high bar with a 13.250, which put him in 18th.

Hodges also scored 12.700 on rings, 12.400 on floor, 11.850 on parallel bars, 10.700 on pommel horse and 74.250 in all around.

"This competition is what determines the United States National Team, the guys who will represent the U.S. internationally, so being there is a major accomplishment," continued Nelson. "We are definitely proud of Joseph and proud of the fact that UIC men's gymnastics has a student-athlete of that caliber."

Hodges rejoins the Flames Sunday (Feb. 23) at the Physical Education Building to take on Iowa. Competition begins at 2 p.m. (CT).
