    BROCKPORT, N.Y.- Senior Joseph Hodges and Junior Brett Valin placed first and second, respectively, in all-around this weekend when the Flames competed in a tri-meet Saturday (Feb. 8) against SUNY-Brockport and William & Mary at the Tuttle North Gymnasium Facility. UIC ultimately fell to William & Mary 412.450-401.350, while placing ahead of SUNY-Brockport’s 220.450.

    As it was faced with tough competition, UIC tallied top scores from Jacob Thurber and Jason Gaides.

    After William & Mary’s Landon Funiciello took first on vault with 14.600, Thurber came in just behind with 14.500. The freshmen also took third on floor with a final score of 14.400.

    On high bar, Gaides took second with a final score of 13.650. He also scored 14.000 on pommel, 13.750 on rings and 13.850 on parallel bars, taking third in all three events.

    Hodges finished competition with a first-place all-around score of 79.750. He scored 14.000 on floor, 13.150 on pommels, 13.700 on rings and vault, 13.550 on parallel bars and 11.650 on high bar.

    Valin completed his all-around competition closely behind his teammate taking second with a final score of 77.350.

    The Flames head to Philadelphia next Saturday (Feb. 15) for a meet against Temple. Competition gets under way at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at Pearson-McGonigle Hall.
