LAS VEGAS – After competing on floor, vault, parallel bars and horizon bar, UIC gymnast Dan Zerbel concluded competition at the Winter Cup Challenge at the Las Vegas Sports Center. Zerbel ranked 55th overall through prelims, as his score of 13.500 on horizontal bar placed him at 18th.
“Thursday was a bit disappointing,” head coach Charley Nelson said. “Dan had a fall on floor and a bobble on parallel bars, otherwise, we would be extending our stay. I am really proud of him and I love knowing that UIC produces some of the nation’s top athletes.”
Exceling on horizontal bar, Zerbel captured a 13.500 for his highest score through all events and placed 14th among the 40 gymnasts while competing in session one. Zerbel’s next best score came on floor with a 12.950, which tied him at 21st.
For the first time this season, Zerbel took to vault, where he scored 12.350 for 33rd, before rounding out competition on parallel bars with a score of 11.950 for 29th.
Zerbel rejoins the Flames as the team breaks until a meet against Minnesota at the Physical Education Building on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. (CT).
