Former UIC Standout Paul Carter Signs with D-League's Idaho Stampede
Dec. 28, 2011
BOISE, Idaho - Former UIC men's basketball standout Paul Carter has signed a contract to play for the NBDL's Idaho Stampede, the organization announced Wednesday. Carter was added to the Utah Jazz training camp roster on Dec. 13, after a brief professional stint in the country of Cyprus.
The Stampede is a minor league franchise for the Jazz, Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers, but Carter could be called up to any NBA team in the event that situation arises. Idaho is 5-7 on the season, and will open a two-game road swing at Tulsa Thursday night. The Stampede's roster also includes former Boston Celtics standout Antoine Walker, along with 2010 NBA draftee Terrico White, who was also signed Wednesday.
Carter was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team last season after averaging 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game on a 40.8 field goal percentage. He posted a team-high 27 double-digit scoring efforts, including three contests with 20 or more points, and tallied 11 double-doubles, including eight in Horizon League play.
Carter played one season at UIC after transferring from Minnesota, and receiving a legislative relief waiver by the NCAA which allowed him immediate eligibility for his senior season.
