Talton Selected as UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO – Men’s basketball player Gary Talton has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec. 3-Dec. 9. Talton guided the Flames to a pair of home wins last week, averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per contest. In Saturday’s game against Colorado State, Talton posted a season-high 20 points (15 in the second half) as the Flames defeated the Rams, 64-55. The senior also dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds. Colorado State, a 2012 at-large NCAA Tournament team, entered the matchup receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll. Against Roosevelt last Wednesday, Talton notched a career-high tying eight assists with zero turnovers in the 81-43 victory. He also chipped in 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and captured three steals. UIC has garnered some early-season recognition with their 8-1 start, receiving a No. 16 ranking in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll. The Flames wrap up a three-game homestand on Saturday against Eastern Michigan (6-2), which will be aired on Comcast SportsNet Chicago at 1 p.m. Talton picks up his second UICFlames.com award of the season and men’s basketball collects its third-straight accolade.
