UIC Athletics To Sponsor Hoops For Hunger|
Dec. 5, 2007
Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's basketball team will sponsor a "Hoops for Hunger" food drive this Saturday, December 8th at the Flames' game against Green Bay at the UIC Pavilion (525 S. Racine).
The UIC Athletic Department will sell tickets at a discounted price for the Flames-Phoenix contest to fans that bring in canned goods and other non-perishable food items.
Fans can purchase tickets for just five dollars instead of the usual $15 charge with any donation, from a can of corn to a box of cereal.
All of the donations will benefit Cathedral Shelter of Chicago located on Chicago's West Side.
Fans can purchase the discounted tickets with their donation on the day of the game.
"We hope that `Hoops for Hunger' illustrates that UIC Athletics is a generous community partner, and that it encourages people near the UIC campus to become involved in our program," said Scott Garrett, UIC Athletics' director of sales and ticket operations.
"We're thrilled to be in partnership with UIC," said Kevin McCullough, Director of Operations for Cathedral Shelter of Chicago. "It's great to have institutions in our community recognize and support the work we do."
CSC is a not-for-profit organization that prevents hunger and homelessness for 10,000 people each year, many of whom take advantage of multiple services. Its food pantry alone provides groceries for 3,600 low-income people.
