CHICAGO - After earning a pair of road wins over non-conference foes Northern Illinois and Northwestern last week, the UIC men's basketball team cracked the Mid-Major Top-25 poll, released on Monday afternoon. The Flames are ranked No. 22 in the weekly poll, which is voted on by 30 Division I head coaches across the country.

The Flames defeated NIU 58-46 (11/27/12), and outlasted Northwestern, 50-44 (12/1/12) to improve to 2-0 in true road games last week. UIC has won five-straight contests overall, and is 6-1 on the season for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign. One of the top defensive teams in the country, the Flames have held five opponents under 35 percent shooting from the field, and four foes to less than 50 total points.

UIC enters this week's slate of games ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense (52.9 ppg) and 19th in three-point field goal defense (.254). The Flames have also been particularly efficient on the offensive end, committing only 10.1 turnovers per game, which is ninth-best in the country. UIC has turned the ball over on only 16 percent of its possessions this season.

UIC joined fellow Horizon League member Valparaiso in the mid-major poll - the Crusaders are ranked 18th overall.

UIC will begin a three-game homestand Wednesday night, when the Flames entertain Roosevelt University at the UIC Pavilion beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Flames will host Colorado State on Saturday afternoon (3:00 p.m.). The Rams won 20 games (20-11) last season, and garnered an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. CSU is off to a 6-0 start this season, and will visit in-state rival Colorado on Wednesday night.
