In its final exhibition match-up of the 1999-2000 pre-season, the UIC menís basketball team knocked off Nunawading Spectres out of Melbourne, Australia, 94-55, Wednesday night at the UIC Pavilion.

For the second straight game of the preseason, six different players scored in double digits led by rookie Jonathan Schneidermanís (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) 18 points. Newcomer Maurice Brown (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) was equally impressive as he finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Rounding out the double-figure scorers were Jordan Kardos (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) with 12 points, Joe Scott (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg), who added 11 points, Thor Solverson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich), who also chipped in 11 points and Theandre Kimbrough (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton), who finished up the night with 10 points.

After cruising out to a 15-3 lead just five and a half minutes into the first half, UIC took a commanding 56-19 lead into the locker room at halftime after shooting 56.4% from the field and 71.4% beyond the three-point arc in the first half.

The Flames dominated on the boards, outrebounding Nunawading 55-36, with 25 of UICís rebounds coming on the offensive end. The Flames capitalized those rebounds into 24 second-chance points to just nine for Nunawading. Brown led UIC with 12 rebounds while Ian Hanavan (Moline, Ill./Moline) also pulled down double-digit caroms with 10.

"I think we did some really good things tonight," Head Coach Jimmy Collins said. "We rebounded the ball really well."

UIC, which went 2-0 in the preseason, opens up its 1999-2000 season Friday night, Nov. 19, against Norfolk State as the Spartans invade the UIC Pavilion for a 7:00 p.m. showdown.
