Talton Selected as UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week|

CHICAGO – Men’s basketball player Gary Talton has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Nov. 19-25. Talton also earned the Horizon League’s co-Player of the Week award for his efforts in two non-conference wins over Iona and Southeast Missouri. The Dallas native averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game and committed just two turnovers.
"Gary has been a consistent scorer for us, but he's also been the floor general that we expected him to be this season," said head coach Howard Moore. "He's been locked in on the game plan, has and been very unselfish running our offense. I expect him to have a great senior year."
Talton guided the Flames to a fourth-place finish in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam last Monday night (Nov. 19) in an 86-81 triumph over Iona. The senior posted a season-high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting and dished out seven assists against just one turnover. Iona received an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and had downed Wake Forest, 94-68, in its previous game.
Against SEMO, Talton chipped in 14 points and a pulled down a career-high nine rebounds as Flames defeated the Redhawks, 56-45.
Talton currently ranks second in the Horizon League in assists with an average of 4.7 helpers per game and first in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 4.7 (28 assists to 6 turnovers), ranking tied-for-24th in all of NCAA D-I.
The point guard serves as the first men’s basketball player to earn the UICFlames.com award.
