Nov. 4, 2010
CHICAGO - The UIC men's basketball team will be one of the most viewed Division I teams in the state of Illinois this season, after Director of Athletics Jim Schmidt announced a five-game agreement with Comcast SportsNet Chicago. The Flames will now appear on television 11 times during the 2010-11 campaign.
Comcast SportsNet, a network that reaches nearly five million viewers, is available on most cable outlets in the state of Illinois, as well as DirectTV and DISH Network. Through the agreement with Comcast SportsNet, UIC fans will be able to see the Flames play home games against Valparaiso (Dec. 2), Wright State (Jan. 6), Cleveland State (Jan. 27) and Milwaukee (Feb. 12), and on the road at Valparaiso on Feb. 26.
Current Tampa Bay Rays radio play-by-play man Dave Wills will handle the play-by-play on the broadcasts, while WGN/Comcast SportsNet personality Dave Kaplan will serve as the color analyst. Prior to moving into baseball, Wills did play-by-play for the UIC Basketball Radio Network.
"We are very excited about this continuing partnership with Comcast SportsNet, and that our fans not only in the Chicagoland region, but across the state of Illinois, will have an opportunity to regularly watch our basketball team this season," said Schmidt.
Along with the contracted games, the Flames will also appear on Comcast SportsNet in three other contests: at Illinois State on Dec. 11, and at home against Detroit (Jan. 8) and Butler (Feb. 19) in the featured Horizon League "Game of the Week."
"We're very pleased to be expanding our UIC telecast package this season and we're all looking forward to another exciting season of Flames basketball on Comcast SportsNet," added Greg Bowman, Sr. Director of Programming for Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
The Flames will also appear on ESPN3.com twice during the upcoming campaign, including against No. 5 Pittsburgh next Wednesday in the first-round of the 2K Sports Classic benefitting Coaches versus Cancer. On Feb. 16, UIC will host crosstown rival Loyola on ESPN3. The Flames' contest against in-state rival Illinois at the United Center on Saturday, Dec. 18 will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
