ESPN Chicago to Serve as Broadcast Home for UIC Basketball
Oct. 31, 2012
CHICAGO - UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced a continuing partnership with Chicago sports radio powerhouse ESPN Chicago (WMVP-AM 1000) Wednesday, a schedule that will air up to 20 of the Flames' games during the upcoming 2012-13 season. Additionally, ESPN Chicago on-air talents Dave Juday and Jonathan Hood have joined UIC's regular broadcast team - Juday will serve as the play-by-play voice, while Hood will host the pregame and halftime coverage.
Juday anchored the pregame and halftime coverage during the Flames' live games on ESPN 1000 last year. Kenny Williams, UIC's second all-time leading scorer, will return to provide color commentary on this season's broadcasts. Juday and Williams were in the same graduating class at Lyons Township High School in 1990.
"We're excited about our men's basketball team being back on the ESPN Chicago airwaves this season," said Schmidt. "It's a great platform to reach our fans not only in the Chicagoland region, but across the country. We would also like to extend an official welcome to both Dave Juday and Jonathan Hood, as they join our broadcast family. It will be great for our fans to be able to listen to a pair of familiar ESPN Chicago personalities calling the action for the Flames."
ESPN Chicago is part of the country's largest sports radio network. WMVP (AM 1000) is a 50,000-watt station that reaches 36 states and Canada and features a mix of national and local programming such as Mike and Mike in the Morning, Waddle & Silvy, Carmen, Jurko and Harry, SVP and Russillo, and much more. Juday is currently the afternoon drive-time update anchor weekdays on ESPN Chicago, while Hood serves in a variety of on-air capacities, including an evening slot on the station during basketball season.
"I'm thankful to both UIC and ESPN 1000 for giving me the opportunity to call Division I basketball," said Juday. "I also want to thank Coach Moore and the Flames for welcoming me to the family -- I can't wait for the season to begin. Along with Kenny and Jonathan, I know we're all looking forward to providing Flames fans with exciting and entertaining broadcasts."
Along with Flames men's basketball broadcasts on the air and online, ESPN Chicago provides synergetic coverage through television, print and online properties owned by "The Worldwide Leader in Sports." The station is also the radio home for the Chicago Bulls.
Games not airing on ESPN Chicago due to other programming conflicts will be available via a webcast on UICFlames.com, with Justin Weiner serving as the play-by-play voice. In addition, every regular season home contest will be simulcast free-of-charge with live video on the Horizon League Network.
