Red-Blue Scrimmage, Festivities Set for Saturday Night

CHICAGO - The annual Red vs. Blue scrimmage, featuring the 2012-13 UIC men's basketball team, will be held at the Flames Athletic Center this Saturday, October 20. Events will include an inter-squad scrimmage, along with three-point and dunk contests.

Doors will open to the general public at 5:15 p.m. CST. After warming up, the team and player introductions will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the 5-on-5 scrimmage at approximately 6:10 p.m. The scrimmage will feature two 20-minute halves with a running clock. The Flames Athletic Center (FAC) is located at 839 West Roosevelt Road in Chicago. The building serves as UIC's main practice facility.

The three-point contest will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by the dunk contest at 7:45 p.m. Head coach Howard Moore will address the fans in attendance at approximately 8:15 p.m., and an ensuing autograph session/social gathering with UIC's players and coaches will be held. Food and drink will be available at the conclusion of the events.

Dunk contest participants will include Purdue transfer Kelsey Barlow, sophomore Ahman Fells and freshmen Gabe Snider and Jake Wiegand. Making up the field in the three-point competition will be seniors Daniel Barnes, Anthony Kelley and Josh Crittle, sophomore transfer Jay Parker and freshman Ngijol Songolo.

The Flames began official practices last Friday (Oct. 12). UIC's returning starters include senior point guard Gary Talton (11.6 ppg/3.3 apg), Barnes, (10.4 ppg), junior forward Hayden Humes (8.2 ppg) and sophomore wing Marc Brown (6.7 ppg).



Talton was a Horizon League All-Newcomer Team selection last season after leading UIC in scoring, field goals made (122), free throw percentage (.867), free throws made (78) and assists per game (3.3). Overall, UIC returns 65 percent of its scoring from the 2011-12 campaign.

Moore and his staff will also welcome eight newcomers to the mix, highlighted by Division I transfers Joey Miller (Eastern Illinois) and Crittle (UCF), both of which will have immediate eligibility this season.

UIC will play its lone exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 7, when the Flames take on the UW-Platteville beginning at 7 p.m., at the UIC Pavilion. The Flames will open the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 11 versus UC Riverside.
