Oct. 16, 2013
CHICAGO - UIC head men's basketball coach Howard Moore and senior forward Hayden Humes spent Wednesday afternoon in downtown Chicago at the InterContinental Hotel, participating in the 2013 Horizon League Media Day. Moore and Humes fielded questions from media members, filmed numerous PSAs, answered fans on social media and appeared live on the Horizon League Network.
"Media Day is a great way to kick of the basketball season," said Moore. "I think it's great to bring all the coaches and players together and to get the fans excited for what's sure to be another competitive season. Our guys are ready to get started and we hope to build off the little bit of success we had last year. "
After Commissioner Jon LeCrone's opening remarks, Moore and Humes sat in front of a green screen and filmed several league PSAs. After that the duo took part in a few fan surveys and recorded an audio interview for HorizonLeague.com. Their next stop was to the press conference room where media ask questions about last year's successful turnaround, the upcoming season, the addition of Kelsey Barlow and much more. Moore and Humes concluded the event with a live interview with HLN's Kyle Binder.
Kicking off the day, moderator David Kaplan of WGN Radio and Comcast SportsNet Chicago announced the preseason poll and all-league teams. Senior Kelsey Barlow was named to the second-team All-Horizon League, while the UIC squad was picked to finish seventh in the 2013-14 standings.
The Flames commence the season on Nov. 2 with a home exhibition contest against the University of Chicago and then open up regular season play versus Drake on Nov.9 at the UIC Pavilion.
