CHICAGO – Senior UIC men’s basketball player Kelsey Barlow has been selected to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon at its annual basketball media day.  The 6-foot-5 guard/forward will suit up for his final collegiate season after playing three years at Purdue and sitting out the 2012-13 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules.

“We are happy for Kelsey that he is getting some recognition around the league,” said head coach Howard Moore.  “He has logged a ton of hours in the gym over the last year and it’s easy to see his passion for basketball.  Kelsey is an extremely hard worker and a great on-the-court leader.”

Barlow will make his Flames’ debut on Nov. 2 in a home exhibition game against the University of Chicago, followed by the season opener versus Drake on Nov. 9 at the UIC Pavilion.

The Indianapolis native made 40 starts and played in 93 total games during his three years with the Boilermakers.  He was named to the Big Ten’s All-Freshmen Team in 2009-10 and was Purdue’s first substitution in 22 games that season.  In his junior year, Barlow averaged 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, reaching double-digit point totals on 10 separate occasions.  Coming out of high school, Barlow was ranked as the No. 41 power forward in the country by ESPN.

In the same Horizon League announcement, the UIC men’s basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2013-14 conference standings.
