CHICAGO – UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced a continuing partnership with Chicago sports radio powerhouse ESPN Chicago (WMVP-AM 1000) Thursday, a schedule that will air at least 17 of the Flames’ games during the upcoming 2013-14 season.  Additionally, ESPN Chicago on-air talents Dave Juday and Jonathan Hood return as UIC’s broadcast team – Juday will serve as the play-by-play voice, while Hood will host the pregame and halftime coverage.

Kenny Williams, UIC’s second all-time leading scorer, will return to provide color commentary on this season’s broadcasts.  Juday and Williams were in the same graduating class at Lyons Township High School in 1990.

“We look forward to continuing our great partnership with ESPN Chicago this coming basketball season,” said Schmidt.  “ESPN provides our fan base with exceptional coverage not only in Chicago, but throughout most of the country.  This long term partnership with the ESPN brand and their reach is a large part of our overall marketing strategic plan. Basketball is rising fast at UIC and this is a natural part of our growing exposure.”

ESPN Chicago is part of the country's largest sports radio network. WMVP (AM 1000) is a 50,000-watt station that reaches 36 states and Canada and features a mix of national and local programming such as Mike and Mike in the Morning, Waddle & Silvy, Carmen and Jurko, The Herd, and much more.  Juday is currently the afternoon drive-time update anchor weekdays on ESPN Chicago, while Hood serves in a variety of on-air capacities, including an evening slot on the station during basketball season.

“We are proud to be the home for UIC basketball in Chicago once again and looking forward to a great 2013-14 season,” said ESPN 1000 program director Adam Delevitt.  “Being partners with such an outstanding university and basketball program is something we value very much.   Howard Moore and his players are prime for a great run, and we can’t wait to bring compelling UIC basketball to our airwaves.  In addition, having Dave Juday and Jonathan Hood part of the broadcast also illustrates great synergy between the program and our station.”

Along with Flames’ basketball broadcasts on the air and online, ESPN Chicago provides synergetic coverage through television, print and online properties owned by "The Worldwide Leader in Sports."  The station is also the radio home for the Chicago Bulls.
