Darrin Williams Collects First Preseason Recognition|

CHICAGO -UIC men's basketball senior center Darrin Williams was named to the 2011-12 preseason All-Horizon League Third-Team by CollegeSportsMadness.com, it was announced Monday morning.
Williams is the Flames' returning leading scorer - he averaged 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game during the 2010-11 season, after starting 20 of the 28 games he played in. Williams posted four double-digit scoring outputs, and corralled five or more rebounds on 10 occasions.
Among Williams' standout performances in his first season in a UIC uniform was a season-high 14-point effort on 5-of-5 shooting at Northern Illinois (12/14/10), 13 points at Youngstown State (12/30/10), 12 points (5-6 shooting) versus Akron (12/4/10) and 10 points at Detroit (2/3/11). Williams also tipped in the game-winner, and scored nine points with six rebounds against No. 12 Illinois at the United Center (12/18/10) in Chicago.
The UIC men's basketball team will officially begin its 2011-12 season Friday (Oct. 14), when the Flames open practice on the first day allowed by the NCAA. UIC will play its first exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 2, when the Flames host the University of Chicago in a men's-women's doubleheader at the UIC Pavilion. The regular season tips off on Friday, Nov. 11 at Eastern Michigan.
