Oct. 8, 2013
CHICAGO – The UIC men’s basketball team will host its annual Red vs. Blue scrimmage on Friday night (Oct. 11) with festivities set begin at 7 p.m. CT. The event will take place at the Flames Athletic Center (839 W. Roosevelt Rd.) and is free to the public. The scrimmage will give fans a chance to catch that first glimpse of the 2013-14 squad which features 16 total players and eight newcomers.
The preseason event will take place over two 20-minute halves and head coach Howard Moore will address the crowd afterwards. The evening will be capped off with an autograph session in which fans can meet the members of the UIC basketball team.
The Flames completed their first official practice on Monday evening (Oct. 7) as they return two starters from last year’s postseason team in senior Hayden Humes and junior Marc Brown. UIC also welcomes eight newcomers including two D-I transfers in seniors Kelsey Barlow (Purdue) and Jordan Harks (Central Arkansas). Barlow came to UIC last season and had to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules.
Moore and company engineered the 12th-best turnaround in the country last season, finishing with the best D-I record in the city of Chicago at 18-16. UIC posted a 12-4 record when playing at the UIC Pavilion, which stands as the most home victories since 2001-02 and the tied for the fifth-most home wins in program history.
The Flames will play its lone exhibition game on Nov. 2 at home against the University of Chicago before kicking off the regular season versus Drake on Nov. 9.
