Chicago, Ill.- UIC head coach Jimmy Colllins announced on Wednesday, Aug. 27 that Josh Anderson (Chicago, Ill./Simeon Career Academy) has joined the UIC men's basketball team.

Anderson, who is joining the Flames as a walk-on, is a 6-foot-3, 182-pound shooting guard who averaged 13.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a senior for Simeon last year. He led the Chicago Public League in free throw shooting percentage, hitting from the charity stripe at a rate of 98 percent during his final high school season.

"We're extremely happy to have Josh join the program," said Collins. "He comes in with outstanding athletic and academic credentials and will represent our University well as a UIC student-athlete."

He helped the Wolverines win back-to-back state championships, two city titles and four conference crowns during his prep career. Anderson was an All-Red South Conference, fourth team all-city and fourth team all-state selection in leading Simeon to a state runner-up finish in 2007-08.

Anderson is the son of former NBA and University of Illinois star Nick Anderson, who Collins coached as a member of the Fighting Illini from 1987-89.
