CHICAGO- UIC head men's basketball coach Jimmy Collins will be honored at this Saturday's Orchid Ball to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter (LFAI).

The Orchid Ball is a black-tie fundraising event held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, located at 160 East Pearson Street at the Water Tower Place in Chicago this Saturday, June 26 at 6 p.m.

Collins will receive the Butterfly Award, given to him for his efforts in promoting awareness of lupus and leading the charge to find causes and a cure for the disease.

"I feel honored to receive this award for such an honorable cause," said Collins. "If the attention that I get helps people get on board with the fight against lupus, that in itself makes this recognition very much worthwhile."

According to the LFAI, the Butterfly Award is presented to an individual who has taken an active role in achieving the mission of the LFAI. The mission of the LFAI is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and the cure.

Collins has appeared and spoken at numerous events about lupus awareness, brought his Flames teams to the annual Walk for Lupus Now events each fall for the past few years, and helped organize a Lupus Awareness Night at a UIC basketball home game this past December.

Tickets to the Orchid Ball are $250 per person. In addition to the award ceremony, there will also be a raffle, a silent auction and a live auction to raise money for the foundation. There will also be cocktails and music by the Bradley Young Orchestra.

For more information, visit the official website of the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter or visit the Facebook page of this year's Orchid Ball. To purchase tickets, please call Mary at 312-542-0002.
