CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team will compete in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam at University of the Virgin Islands from Nov. 16-19, 2012. The Flames, who also competed in the annual event during the 2007-08 season, will begin the tournament by taking on New Mexico on Friday, Nov. 16.

The Paradise Jam field features eight college basketball teams, and each squad is guaranteed three non-conference match-ups. Joining the Flames in the 2012 field will be New Mexico, UConn, Wake Forest, George Mason, Iona, Quinnipiac and Mercer. All games will be played at the University of the Virgin Islands on the island of St. Thomas.

As mentioned, UIC will take on New Mexico on Nov. 16 - the game is scheduled to tip off at 5:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (4:00 p.m. CST), but is subject to change depending on television commitments. The Lobos finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 28-7 (10-4 Mountain West) record, and advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament.

Other first-round games on Friday, Nov. 16 will include Mercer vs. George Mason (2:30 p.m. AST), Wake Forest vs. UConn (7:30 p.m.) and Quinnipiac vs. Iona (10:00 p.m.). First-round winners will advance to the winner's bracket, while the losers will play in the ensuing loser's bracket. The championship game is set for Monday, Nov. 19 at 10:00 p.m. AST.

The Paradise Jam began in 2001, and has run every year since - the tournament expanded from a six to an eight-team field in 2006. UIC finished eighth in the field in 2007. Marquette captured the 2011 Paradise Jam Championship.
