CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team heads to Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse for this Friday's 2009 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinal clash against Cleveland State. The seventh-seeded Flames (16-14) and the third-seeded Vikings (22-10) will do battle at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT in Indianapolis for the right to advance to the semifinals and face second-seeded Green Bay on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT at Hinkle in front of a national-television audience on ESPNU. Connie's Pizza proudly presents 2009 UIC Flames men's basketball postseason radio broadcasts on 560 WIND AM. Friday's game will air on 560 AM as Adam Levinson describes the action alongside UIC great and expert analyst Kenny Williams. A live video stream of the game will also be available on the Horizon League Network (free registration required). UIC has now won five in a row and six of its last seven games after defeating Youngstown State, 73-68, in the tournament's opening round this past Tuesday in Youngstown, Ohio. Junior forward Rob Eppinger is playing his best ball of the year entering Friday's game, averaging 18.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg in his last two outings. Eppinger scored a career-high 20 points, making a key three-point play and a pair of crucial free throws in the game's final 27 seconds, while also pulling down 14 boards for his first career double-double in the win over the Penguins. Senior guard Josh Mayo is just six points shy of becoming the fourth player in UIC history to score at least 1,700 points. He can also become the 31st player in the long history of what is now the Horizon League to accomplish such a feat. Senior center Scott VanderMeer has made a habit out of turning away Cleveland State shot attempts. VanderMeer averages 5.7 blocks per game in six career contests against the Vikings, including an eight-block game last month and a league-record nine-block performance in 2007. The Flames will seek to do to Cleveland State what they did to Youngstown State: avenge two regular-season losses with a postseason win. Like the Penguins, the Vikings swept their two-game series against UIC.
