Chicago, Ill. - UIC and Loyola will travel 90 miles north to renew their city rivalry on Friday night as the two teams square off at 7:00 p.m., in the second round of the 2005 American Family Insurance Horizon League Tournament at US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Wis. The fifth-seeded Flames (15-13) are coming off an opening-round win over #8 Cleveland State on Tuesday night at the Pavilion while the #4 Ramblers bested #9 Youngstown State that same evening at the Gentile Center. The only previous time these teams met in the postseason was the 2002 Horizon League Tournament title game, which UIC won 62-61 in overtime on a game-winning jumper by then-freshman Cedrick Banks. The Flames had their seven-game winning streak over Loyola halted on Feb. 17th, when the Ramblers ventured into the Pavilion and picked up a 91-85 victory. Loyola enters Friday night's tilt as one of the hottest teams in the tournament, having won its last five games. They are led by sophomore Blake Schilb. The All-Horizon League First Team forward is averaging 17.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The Flames, who have won three of their last four contests, will counter with All-Horizon League First Team guard Cedrick Banks. The Flames' all-time leading scorer is averaging 26 points per contest in his last seven outings and is 7-2 all-time versus Loyola. The winner of this game will advance to meet top-seeded, UW-Milwaukee, on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., at US Cellular Arena, in the league tournament semifinals.
