Flames Down Saint Francis
Dec. 4, 1999 Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago rookie Joe Scott (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) tallied his first career “double-double” with personal-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Flames to a 69-65 victory over Saint Francis College (Pa.) this afternoon at the UIC Pavilion. “It’s good to win a close one,” UIC Head Coach Jimmy Collins said. “One where you really have to battle. This was a tough team because everyone could shoot. We got a great all-around effort from everyone tonight.” UIC (3-3), which shot 46.4% in the first half, led 33-27 at the break as Scott paced the Flames with eight points. Saint Francis (1-5) kept it close thanks to the three-point show put on by forward Rob Krimmel, who hit four of his five attempts beyond the arc in the first half, to lead all scorers with 12 at the break. Saint Francis, which entered the game hitting just 38% from the field and 31% from three-point range, made things interesting in the second half. Guards Earl Forman and Jamal Ragland, who were held to a combined two points in the first half, heated up in the final 20 minutes for 18 points and eight points, respectively. The Red Flash finished the outing shooting a season-high 50% from three-point range. UIC, which had all nine of its players tally at least two points, also got a double-digit scoring performance from senior Theandre Kimbrough, who finished with 10 points. Krimmel and Foreman each finished the afternoon with 18 points to lead Saint Francis.
UIC returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 7, when it travels to Chicago State for a 7:35 p.m. showdown.
