Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's basketball team gave Flames fans a preview of things to come for the 2003-04 season, winning their exhibition opener against the Illinois All-Stars, 97-69, at the UIC Pavilion on Wednesday night.

Horizon League Pre-Season Player of the Year Cedrick Banks led the Flames with 24 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes, while 2002-03 NCAA assist leader Martell Bailey dished out eight assists.

Mac Irvin led the All-Stars with 26 points in the losing effort.

The Flames were in control for most of the contest, putting the game away with a 12-0 run to put UIC up by 20 at the 8:31 mark in the second half.

Senior forward Armond Williams provided some high-flying highlights for the Flames. Williams jammed home two points off an alley-oop pass from Banks to put the Flames up 53-39 three minutes into the second half, then flushed a one-handed dunk off a fast break with six minutes left in the game.

Wednesday's game also marked the debut of freshman Marcetteaus McGee, who chipped in 18 points and four assists in 21 minutes of work.

Some familiar faces took the floor for the All-Stars. Former UIC standout Cory Little scored 20 points against the Flames, while ex-Peoria Manual and Fighting Illini star Sergio McClain pitched in three points and three assists.

The Flames return to action for their final exhibition contest, taking on St. Francis on Tuesday, November 11th at the UIC Pavilion. Game time is 8 p.m.
