Flames Tamed By Panthers
Jan. 13, 2000 MILWAUKEE (AP) - Chad Angeli and Shaun Fountain scored 19 points each and Wisconsin-Milwaukee hit nine 3-pointers Thursday night to defeat Illinois-Chicago 82-64 in Midwestern Collegiate Conference action. The Panthers equalled last year's victory total by improving to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the MCC under first-year coach Bo Ryan. The Flames (6-11, 1-2) were led by Maurice Brown with 13 points. After the Flames pulled within six points on a three-point play by Joe Scott, the Panthers got a basket by Adrian Coffey and a pair of free throws from Angeli to lead 56-46 with 12:13 left, and Chicago never got that close again. Clay Tucker connected for the Panthers' ninth 3-pointer with 9:23 remaining to push the lead to 61-50. Milwaukee made 7 of 13 shots from 3-point range in the first half to take a 40-33 lead. Jordan Kardos made one of two free throws to put the Flames ahead 25-24. But
Fountain got inside for two straight baskets and Kolombo Kadima made his second
3-pointer to give the Panthers a 31-25 lead.
