Chicago, Ill.- UIC center fielder Steve McGuiggan (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley H.S.) was named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Baseball Team presented by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

McGuiggan was one of UIC's best hitters all season long, batting .370 (85-for-230) with three homers, 10 doubles, five triples and 40 runs driven in during the Flames' 57-game campaign that ended in an NCAA Regional appearance. The rookie also stole 14 bases and scored 49 runs as the team's leadoff man.

The true freshman was a 2008 All-Horizon League Second Team selection and a member of the Horizon League's All-Newcomer Team.
