CHICAGO – Sophomore Tomas Michelson has been named the Horizon League Co-Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 6-12 as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.  Michelson tossed his first career complete game shutout this past Friday in a 3-0 win against defending-league champion Valparaiso at Les Mille Field.

“I thought Tomas pitched really well on Friday night,” said head coach Mike Dee.  “He’s been able to eat up innings for us all year long and that’s huge for our bullpen.”

Michelson gave up just five hits on the evening and allowed zero walks, while striking out five Valpo batters.  He improved his season record to 6-4 and lowered his ERA and opposing batting average to 2.84 and .251, respectively, as he ranks top-3 in both categories among all Horizon League pitchers.  Michelson also paces the conference in innings pitched (88.2) and ranks second in strikeouts (62).

The award marks his third weekly accolade of the season after claiming the honor on April 15 and Feb. 18.  He stands as one of two Horizon League players to earn the laurel three or more times this season.
