CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (22-20, 15-9) will travel to Horizon League-foe Youngstown State this weekend for its final road series of the season.  Play begins on Friday at 10 a.m. CT with single games on Saturday and Sunday.  The Flames swept the Penguins in a home series in early April, outscoring YSU by a run-margin of 30-13.  UIC owns a 53-23 all-time series advantage against the Penguins and have topped YSU in eight of their last nine meetings.

The Flames dropped their most recent outing against Northwestern this past Wednesday at home by a final of 8-4.  Prior to the mid-week loss, UIC had won eight straight contests, which served as tied for the fifth longest win streak in the nation.

The Flames still stand as one of the top offensive teams in the country as they own the NCAA’s seventh-highest batting average of .315.  UIC also ranks eighth in scoring (7.3 runs per game), sixth in on-base percentage (.406) and 20th in slugging percentage (.423).

Seniors Alex Jurich and Jacob McNamara and junior Jeff Boehm tout some impressive national rankings as individuals.  Jurich ranks 50th in the nation in batting average (.373) and 16th in RBI per game (1.07).  McNamara serves as the country’s 27th toughest batter to strike out and ranks 30th in on-base percentage (.475).  The power-hitting Boehm ranks 35th in the nation in slugging percentage (.598) and top-30 in both home runs and doubles per game.

Youngstown State enters the three-game stint in fifth place in the conference standings with a 4-13 record, owning an overall mark of 10-31.  They were swept by first-place Wright State last weekend in a trio of competitive contests.  The Penguins have only played in eight home games so far this year as they hold a 4-4 record at Eastwood Field.

Freshman Alex Larivee paces YSU at the plate with 44 hits and a batting average of .321.  The Penguins are projected to start LHP Jared Wight on Friday and then RHP Nic Manuppelli and RHP Patrick O’Brien on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Youngstown State is scheduled to stream all three games on the Horizon League Network.
