Flames Drop Road Game at Northwestern, 3-1
The UIC baseball team (13-13) dropped a non-conference road game on Wednesday afternoon at Northwestern (12-9) by a final score of 3-1 inside the confines of Rocky Miller Park. The Flames had trouble finding their offensive groove as NU starting pitcher Reed Mason scattered five hits over seven innings for the win. Sophomore Tyler Detmer shined at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 as he posted the lone RBI for UIC.

“We are going to have a hard-fought couple of weeks,” said head coach Mike Dee.  “But I’m happy about that because I think that will set us up well for the Horizon League Tournament.”

The Flames are coming off a 3-2 series finale win against East Tennessee State this past Sunday.  Redshirt junior pitcher Mike McKinley picked up his third win of the season as allowed a mere four hits and one earned run over 8.1 innings of work.  With the victory, UIC improved its home record to 13-10 and also snapped a three-game losing streak.  Sophomore outfielder Tyler Detmer continues to lead the Flames at the plate with a batting average of .305 and fronts the Horizon League with 14 doubles on the year.

Northwestern will be wrapping up a conference series against Ohio State on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.  That contest serves as the rubber match as the two clubs split the first two games.  The Wildcats blanketed the Buckeyes in game one, 8-0, but dropped game two on the heels of a two-run ninth inning rally by OSU.

UIC and Northwestern met earlier in the year on April 3 in Evanston as NU claimed a 3-1 victory.  The two programs have met for at least one game in each of the last 10 seasons. will be providing free audio coverage of the event which can be accessed by clicking here!
