Baseball Prepares for Vital Horizon League Series at UWM|
April 25, 2013
CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team will travel to Milwaukee this weekend for a three-game series, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. The Panthers hold the top spot in the Horizon League standings with an 8-4 record, while the Flames trail in second place with an 8-7 mark. Milwaukee took two-of-three from UIC back in late March at Les Miller Field as the Flames claimed victory in the finale by a slim margin of 6-5.
UIC is coming off a disappointing 20-0 loss to reigning Big Ten champion Purdue this past Wednesday after splitting a two-game set early in the season. Last weekend, the Flames won a conference series at Youngstown State to take hold of sole possession of second place. Junior John Coen was impressive in the three-game stint, hitting 5-of-9 (.556) with six RBI and three runs. For his efforts, Coen was named the Horizon League Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Milwaukee was finally able to play its first home game of the season on Wednesday in a 5-0 win against Northwestern at Miller Park, home to the Milwaukee Brewers. Cold weather, snow and rain showers have forced the Panthers into 12 cancellations and postponements in just the past few weeks. The Panthers will host Carroll at Henry Aaron Field today with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
