Chicago Tribune Touts UIC Baseball As Affordable Viewing
April 21, 2009
CHICAGO- Today's edition of the Chicago Tribune featured the UIC baseball team as an affordable alternative for fans on a budget. Dan McGrath's article "These diamonds are affordable," published in print and online as part of the Tribune and WGN's "Recession Relief Week" series, lists college and minor league baseball and softball options that don't break bank accounts. Both the UIC baseball and softball teams offer $6 individual game tickets for all home regular season contests, and admission for children ages 3 and under and UIC students is free. A $25 UIC Flames All-Sport Ticket for every regular season home game for baseball, softball and almost every UIC sport is also on sale. In addition to touting the quality and speed of the college game, the online version of the article also points out that fans can watch future professional players before they become stars. Former UIC outfielder and current Detroit Tigers fan favorite Curtis Granderson was mentioned as one of those MLB stars who played his college ball in the city of Chicago in front of fans who did not have to delve into their children's college funds to see him. Lot parking nearby both Les Miller Field and Flames Field is also affordable, and a concession stand sells the standard ballpark fare. Great neighborhood dining options are also available on Halsted and Maxwell. The UIC campus, where the Flames' baseball and softball fields are intimately tucked away with spectacular views of the Chicago skyline, is situated just a mile west of the Loop and is easily accessible for those across the Chicagoland area via expressway.
