CHICAGO – Baseball player Tomas Michelson has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of April 8-14 as announced by the athletic department on Wednesday morning. In a 6-1 win against league-foe Wright State last Friday, Michelson posted his first collegiate complete game and a career-high eight strikeouts. For his efforts, the sophomore was also named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week and was featured on the Horizon League Network.
Michelson scattered seven hits in the series-opening win and didn’t allow a single walk or an earned run. The Naperville, Ill., native improved his season record to 4-2 and lowered his ERA to 1.82, which ranks second in the conference.
Michelson takes home his first UICFlames.com award and the second for baseball as redshirt senior Alex Grunenwald was given the honor on March 13.
UIC baseball returns to action on Friday at Youngstown State for a three-game stint. The Flames are tied for second in the Horizon League with a record of 6-6.
