Baseball to Host Chicago State on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (12-13, 7-5) will host its 11th straight home game on Wednesday night as they welcome cross-town rival Chicago State at 6:05 p.m. CT. The Flames have won five consecutive outings, including eight of their last nine games, while the Cougars have dropped their last nine affairs. UIC holds a 58-17 all-time series advantage against Chicago State with a 23-2 mark since 2000. Prior to the Flames’ 14-12 loss versus CSU earlier this season, UIC had beaten the Cougars in 22 straight games.
The Flames won all four tilts last week which included a historic 18-5 triumph against Big Ten-member Purdue on April 1. The 13-run win was UIC’s largest margin of victory versus a Big Ten program since 2006. UIC also swept Horizon League-foe Youngstown State in a three-game weekend series. The Flames outscored the Penguins 30-13 in the trio of contests and tallied a team batting average of .361.
Redshirt junior Alex Lee was named the conference’s Batter of the Week for his stellar performance at the plate. In four games he hit .769 (10-of-13), totaled eight runs, seven RBI and amassed a slugging percentage of 1.077. He posted his first career home run against the Boilermakers, a three-run blast the cleared the wall in left center. Against the Penguins, Lee went 8-of-10 from the dish with six runs and four RBI.
UIC is well represented in the latest edition of the NCAA’s national statistical rankings. As a team, the Flames rank ninth in the nation with a batting average of .311. They also rank ninth in on-base percentage (.405) and 13th in runs per game (7.4). Senior Jacob McNamara paces UIC with a hitting mark of .406, which ranks 20th in the country, while senior Alex Jurich averages 1.29 RBI per outing, the fourth-highest ratio in the NCAA.
Chicago State will play back-to-back games this week as they host Notre Dame on Tuesday night and then journey to UIC on Wednesday. The Cougars hold an overall record of 9-17 with a Western Athletic Conference mark of 0-6. Freshman Sanford Hunt paces CSU at the plate with a batting average of .367.
