Baseball Begins a Five-Game Homestand

April 8, 2013

CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team will step out of Horizon League play this week to host Bradley and Chicago State, Tuesday and Wednesday night at Les Miller Field.  The mid-week contests will mark the beginning of a five-game homestand.  UIC will also host Wright State in a three-game set this weekend.

The first pitch against Bradley is set for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.  The Flames have won three-of their last four meetings against the Braves, who are 11-16 on the season.  It will mark the lone meeting between UIC and Bradley this season.

Chicago State will make their way across town Wednesday night for a 7:05 p.m. match-up at The Mill.  The Flames will host the Cougars (4-16) for the first time since April 26, 2011 when UIC scored 15 runs in just seven innings.

The Flames took two-of-three at Valparaiso last weekend thanks to a pair of one-run victories.  The Flames outlasted Valpo 2-1 on Friday, before coming up short in a 6-2 decision Saturday.  In Sunday’s rubber match, Ian Lewandowski gave up just two runs in seven innings, helping the Flames post a 4-3 win at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Redshirt junior RHP Mike McKinley, currently owning a 3.05 ERA, will take the mound for the Flames against Bradley Tuesday night, while sophomore right-hander Brian Evak gets the nod for Wednesday’s match-up.
