CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team (9-13, 4-5) will host its third straight Horizon League weekend series beginning on Friday with a three-game stint against Youngstown State.  First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. CT, with single games on Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 3:05 and 12:05, respectively.  The Flames have dominated YSU since the Penguins joined the conference back in 2002, owning a 26-1 record in home games.  Overall, UIC enjoys a 42-19 advantage in all games played since YSU's Horizon League launch.

The Flames are fresh off of an 18-5 blowout victory against Purdue this past Tuesday night at Granderson Stadium, marking UIC's largest win over a Big Ten opponent since 2006.  That wasn't the only milestone reached as 18 runs serves as the Flames' largest total in nearly two years and UIC's 16 hits stands as a new season-high.  Senior Alex Jurich was named the PerfectGame.org Player of the Day for his six-RBI performance, which included his second grand slam of the season.

The Flames look for their third consecutive HL series win this weekend against the Penguins after defeating Valparaiso and preseason conference favorite Milwaukee.  After an eight-game losing streak, UIC has found some confidence as they have won five of its last six games.

Sophomore Jack Andersen was recently named the Horizon League's Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the series-clinching win versus UWM last Sunday.  The 6-foot-4 righty tossed eight innings of shutout ball and allowed just four hits and zero walks.  Senior Jacob McNamara stands as one of the best hitters in the nation with a league-leading batting average of .439, however over the last six games he is averaging .667 (16-for-24).  The designated hitter currently rides a four-game three-hit streak.

Youngstown State enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-17 and a Horizon League mark of 0-2.  This year's winter weather has been unkind to the Penguins as they have canceled 11 games, including seven conference tilts.  YSU won its most recent outing this past Wednesday at home against Pittsburgh by a final of 7-6.

A reminder to UIC fans that the official grand opening for Curtis Granderson Stadium will be on Thursday April 17, as Flames host Wright State at 4:05 p.m. CT.  Click here for ticket information.
