CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team jumps back into Horizon League play with a trip to Milwaukee this weekend for a three-game series against the Panthers set to begin on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.  Game one of the set stands as Milwaukee’s 2012 home opener and marks the fifth time this year UIC has helped kick off an opponent’s home season.  The Flames will be looking to extend its current five-game win streak to six or higher, a feat UIC has not reached since the 2008 campaign.

“Milwaukee’s a good team and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said head coach Mike Dee.  “I think our guys took a step forward last week, but we need to keep improving.”

Milwaukee enters the series with a 6-15 overall record and a 2-4 mark in conference play.  Two of their four non-conference wins were against Big Ten-member Minnesota, while the other two were against San Francisco and Arkansas at Little Rock.  The Panthers began Horizon League play at Youngstown State on March 16, capturing two-out-three from the Penguins, but recently dropped all three affairs at Valparaiso.  UWM stepped outside of conference action this past Tuesday at Northern Illinois, a game in which they fell, 5-4.

The Flames are coming off of a non-league win over Notre Dame this past Tuesday, 8-5, as they have now beaten the Fighting Irish in the last four meetings.  The reigning Horizon League Batter of the Week Ryan Boss posted his fourth homer of the season in that contest and redshirt junior Nick Addison notched his second.  Addison pilots the team with a .316 batting average and leads the league with 11 stolen bases.
