CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team will carry its three-game win streak into trio of contests against Western Illinois this weekend at home with play beginning on Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT.  The Flames step out of Horizon League action after compiling a 3-3 record during the previous two weekends versus conference opponents.  The three-game stint will be the first gathering between UIC and WIU since the 2004 season, nearly nine years.

The Flames are fresh off of a 6-2 triumph over Indiana State this past Wednesday as redshirt junior Mike McKinley tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the charge.  He allowed just one hit and struck out five Sycamore batters en route to his second win of the season.  ISU won the Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season Title in 2012 and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Tyler Detmer and Ryan Boss are guiding UIC at the plate so far this season with identical batting averages of .319.  Boss serves as more of a power hitter with a team-leading .551 slugging percentage, while Detmer paces the team in hits with 23 and five doubles.  Taking the mound for UIC on Friday will be sophomore Tomas Michelson.  Michelson carries a 3-2 record in six starts this year and an ERA of 2.52.  Freshman Ian Lewandowski will start on Saturday and senior Joey Begel will be on the bump for Sunday.

The Leathernecks enter the weekend with a 6-14 overall record having won three of their last four games, including a series win versus Big Ten-member Michigan.  WIU is piloted by first-year head coach Ryan Brownlee, who spent the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach with Iowa.  Brownlee had Western Illinois off to great start in the early season with a series finale win over #1 Arkansas on Feb. 17 by a final score of 7-5.  The Leathernecks were picked to finish fourth in the Summit League of the six participating schools.  WIU’s weekend rotation will be RHP John White, LHP Tom Constand and RHP Riley Perry. will carry the radio call of the series finale on Sunday. will provide audio for all three outings.
